We are excited to announce two new allergists to the Charleston Allergy & Asthma Team! Please welcome Dr. Meredith L. Moore and Dr. Carolyn R. Word.
Dr. Moore is board certified in pediatrics, allergy and immunology for both adults and pediatrics. She received her undergraduate degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO with her first assignment at Shaw AFB, Sumter, S.C. as an aerospace physiologist. Dr. Moore then attended the University of South Carolina Medical School in Columbia, S.C. She completed her residency and spent six years as a general pediatrician in the Air Force followed by training in allergy, asthma and immunology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Moore achieved the rank of Colonel before her retirement from the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service.
Born in England, Dr. Moore grew up all over the world as the daughter of an Air Force pilot. After being stationed at Charleston Air Base, she and her husband, Mike, a child psychiatrist and South Carolina native, decided the Lowcountry was the place to be. She stays busy swimming, enjoying paddle sports, skiing and trying to keep up with her three boys.
Dr. Word is board eligible in allergy, asthma and immunology for both adults and pediatrics. She received her undergrad and M.D. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. She completed her residency at MUSC and then traveled back to the University of Virginia to complete her allergy and immunology fellowship.
A Knoxville, TN native, Dr. Word decided to move back to Charleston after spending many summers here with her family on Isle of Palms. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Robert, and their two little ones. Dr. Word enjoys baking and cooking with her little girl, as well as, listening to live music, heading out to the beach, and paddle boarding as a family.
